There are currently several digital HDTVproposals being evaluated by the FCC. There areseveral advantages to the acceptance of a digital HDTVstandard. The technical advantages, which will be ofmost concern to NASA is the fact that the use of digitaltechnology increases the inter-operability of thesesystems. The output of a digital system can berelatively easily interfaced with existing transmissionfacilities, such as the NASA network as described byvarious CCSDS documents. We are in the processingof simulating the proposed HDTV techniques in thecontext of using them to transmit HDTV sequences overNASA network. In this paper we present the results ofour simulation and discuss the various tradeoffsinvolved in selecting the different services available onthe NASA network.
